The Prouts were from Totnes, Devonshire, England...where some still reside today.  The earliest known couple is Thomas & Margaret (Peggy) Prout.  To the best of our knowledge, each of their children, as well as most of their 37 grandchildren, were born in or near Totnes.

Their grandson William married Elizabeth Lavercomb, had 2 children, then came to America.  They settled near Cincinnati, Ohio - and loving it so, named their next child Richard Cincinnatus.

Richard's daughter Evebelle (Eve/Eva) was the one James Thurber wrote about (and to) not infrequently throughout his career.

Eve's sister Harriet, and her husband John Howard Sloan Sr., are my Great Grandparents.
