Timeline of the Family of John Sloan and Nancy Agnes Daugherty/Dougherty
~ From Records ~

John M. Sloan (immigrated c1833?) married Nancy Agnes DAUGHERTY (immigrated 1818?; c1810-c1904)
in Pittsburgh 1833...then settled in Fairview/Ohioville, Beaver County?
Children:
Samuel Robert Sloan (c1834-?) m. Georgia SHAUTON
James Washington Sloan (c1837-?) m. Eliza STEELE
William John Sloan (1839-1921) m. Rebecca Jane McCLELLAND
Thomas Spreul Sloan (c1841-?) m. Margaret THOMPSON
Elizabeth Jane Sloan (c1844-c1858)
Mary A. Sloan (c1846-?)
Martha "Mattie" E. Sloan (c1848-?) m. George Reed SLATER

Maybe a good middle initial for John. I predict the James McKee link opens a whole new avenue of research...there are frequent connections between Sloan and James McKee in PA history.

All Accounted for but William and James, whom I haven't found yet. I know they're not in Neville Twp.

?? Does anyone know where James and William are in the 1870 Census ??
Might James be deceased?

VERY INTERESTING NOTE, though, about Nancy's children: None of Nancy's (Agnes) children say their father was of foreign birth! What's with that?? Here's how the columns are marked for each of the Sloans:

Name Father of foreign birth Mother of foreign birth
Agnes Marked Marked
Samuel Neither is marked
James  Not found yet.
William  Not found yet.
Thomas Not Marked Marked
Mary Not Marked Marked
Martha Neither is marked

Granted, Samuel and Martha's 'markings' cannot be taken so seriously since neither column is marked and Nancy herself confirms she was born in Ireland...but for Thomas and Mary each indicates specifically that mother was born foreign and father was not. Can we be wrong about John's being born in Ireland? Read on...this same issue is repeated in 1880!
